Hillside Residence

Set into a west-facing slope above the Pacific, Hillside Residence steps down the hill in three shallow terraces, each one opening onto its own strip of garden. The lower level dissolves into the pool deck through a wall of pocketing glass, so the boundary between inside and out reads as more of a suggestion.

Board-formed concrete and white oak carry the material story throughout, kept consistent from the entry hall to the primary suite. Every room was oriented around a specific hour of daylight — the kitchen for morning, the study for late afternoon — rather than around a generic notion of a good view.
